Horses for Hope Display Day

On October 12, Horses for Hope welcomed over 100 visitors for its long-awaited Display Day; the first public event since 2019. Held during International Mental Health Week, the event invited the community to come along and see first-hand how the unique equine-assisted narrative therapy service operates in Mooroopna North, Victoria.

Horses for Hope, has spent the past two decades helping humans and horses work to overcome adversities and build trust through innovative therapeutic techniques. This milestone celebrates the program, and the benefits it is has had on the lives of both horses and humans.

“It was wonderful to be able to show people just what we’re all about,” said Manager Kim Hider. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to the success of Horses for Hope over the past twenty years. These events are our way of saying thank you to our supporters and give some insight into the impact of our equine-assisted narrative counselling service has on participants in our community.”

The day featured two engaging demonstrations at 10am and 12pm. Each session included an introduction to the program's history, an introduction to the horse-work component of the therapy followed by a panel Q&A featuring a past participant, a HFH board director, one of our counsellors and horse-practitioners. The event concluded with a heartwarming horse parade, where the crowd enjoyed hearing about their stories, and watching some of the members of the herd showcase their progress.

The celebration also included a BBQ hosted by the Mooroopna Lions Club and coffee from Fast Brew. A new merchandise line was launched, featuring hats made possible by the GVW Staff Charity Fund. The event was further supported by a small event grant from Greater Shepparton City Council, ensuring a smooth and memorable experience for all.

The success of this year’s Display Day highlights the importance of community, connection, and healing. As Horses for Hope looks to the future, it remains committed to supporting people from the Goulburn Valley and beyond.
